ENGLEWOOD — A South Side cultural center that closed five years ago will reopen in May to expose neighbors to more worldly art and inspire healthier living. 

The Perry Mansion Cultural Center, a community art hub and gallery space inside a century-old Queen Anne Victorian-style mansion, will welcome back its first guests May 17.  

Founder Sam Smith will host a ceremonial gala with live musical performances, new art exhibits, refreshments and open tours of the redesigned center at 7042 S. Perry Ave.

Smith, who hails from Mississippi and has lived on the West and South sides, is a real estate developer and multimedia artist
