COPA investigating after off-duty officer exchanges gunfire with multiple armed offenders on Southwest Side: CPD

CHICAGO — COPA is investigating after an off-duty police officer exchanged gunfire with multiple armed offenders on the city’s Southwest Side.

According to police, the off-duty officer was confronted by a group of armed offenders when an exchange of gunfire ensued around 4:20 a.m. Monday on the 3700 block of West 67th Place in the West Lawn neighborhood.

Police said the armed offenders then entered a dark-colored sedan and fled the scene westbound.

The officer sustained a minor injury and was transported to an area hospital for observation. No other injuries have been reported.
