CHICAGO (WGN) — In his first and only television interview this season, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s new music director Klaus Mäkelä shares his vision for the future of the beloved civic institution.

Mäkelä is the youngest person to lead the CSO in the orchestra’s 134-year history.

He was just 28 when he was named the CSO’s next music director.  He’s 29 now,  but won’t officially take over until 2027.

 “Music and arts, they have no age, no gender, no nothing. It’s all about the subject. About the art and it feels very natural to make music,” he said.
