Dolton business fire appears suspicious, investigators say

COOK COUNTY, Ill. (WGN) — A Tuesday morning fire in south suburban Dolton appears to be suspicious, investigators say.

The fire at a commercial building on the 1300 block of East 142nd Street consumed the building and several vehicles. Crews called to the scene shortly after 7 a.m. found thick, black smoke and flames going through the roof.

WGN Investigates has learned the building is owned by Larry Gardner, a frequent critic of Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard.

The business is also where Illinois Secretary of State Police in December recovered 10 stolen
