Man Charged With Murder In Death Of Chicago Fire Captain David Meyer

AUSTIN — A man has been charged with murder in the death of veteran firefighter David Meyer.

Charles Green, 44, faces felony counts of murder and aggravated arson. He ignited a garbage bin that engulfed a residential garage in Austin, leading to its roof collapsing on Meyer and causing fatal injuries, police said.

Green, of Austin, was arrested Wednesday “within hours of the fire” and a block away from the blaze, near where he lives, police said. He is due in court for a detention hearing Saturday.
