PILSEN — Juana “Juanita” Fuentes Alacantara would greet commuters every day at the 18th Street Pink Line station where she worked with an ear-to-ear smile and warm conversation.

“She just wanted to do a good job at the CTA,” Fuentes Alacantara’s daughter, Diana Alacantara, said during a Sunday event honoring her mother.

Fuentes Alacantara died April 5 from complications related to pneumonia and cancer at the age of 63, leaving behind her husband, Eduardo, and four children.
