(WGN) — A Pueo bird with a broken wing is benefiting from advances in 3D printing for veterinary medicine.

“It was really cool in surgery like, ‘Oh man, this is a cool opportunity to be a part of,'” said Dr. Brian Walsh, Medical Director of Feathers and Fur Animal Hospital.

It’s the first known time the 3D printed fixator has been used to help stabilize the broken bones of a bird’s wing in Hawaii.
