PILSEN — Skylark’s reputation is officially in the toilet: The beloved, century-old urinals the bar is known for have been formally recognized with a brass plaque.
On Thursday, the bar at 2149 S. Halsted St., which is home to the oldest-known urinals in Chicago, unveiled a dedicated marker for its famous latrines during a special ceremony.
The events began with a musical trio who performed the 1939 song “Skylark,” followed by a historical presentation on the bar’s urinals by Paul Durica, director of exhibitions at the Chicago History Museum, and historian Tim Samuelson, both longtime bar regulars.
