DOWNTOWN — The State Street bridge will close to foot and vehicular traffic beginning Monday for emergency repairs.
The bridge, which runs over the Chicago River Downtown, is central to commuter and tourist traffic, particularly as summer approaches. Construction is expected to continue until November.
Needed repairs include removing and replacing floor beams and rehabilitating “center lock components,” according to a Chicago Department of Transportation news release. On the north side of the bridge, viaduct repairs will happen in two stages south of Kinzie Street.
CDOT’s detour plans:
Northbound vehicular traffic: detour to westbound Wacker Drive, to northbound Dearborn Street, to eastbound Kinzie Street
