BRIGHTON PARK — A communal bike ride Saturday in Brighton Park will show attendees how to safely explore the neighborhood by bike — and serve as a call to make its streets safer for bicyclists and pedestrians.

The Southwest Collective, a nonprofit serving eight Southwest Side neighborhoods, is organizing the 6-mile, family-friendly bike ride, which starts 10 a.m. Saturday. Neighbors will meet at West 48th and South Rockwell streets at Park District headquarters, 4830 S. Western St.

The ride is free and open to people of all ages. A limited number of free Divvy bikes will be available on a first-come, first-served
