CHICAGO – Red ribbons were placed on every tree and every light pole along the procession route for Chicago Fire Captain David Meyer, who was killed in the line of duty on Wednesday.

Over 50 volunteers helped put up the ribbons on Sunday, which can be found on a three-mile stretch of Milwaukee Avenue in Norwood Park.

“We’re both from firefighter families and what their family is going through, we want to be there to support them because that’s what we do,” Meyer’s friend Maureen Stanton said. “I knew Dave for over 20 years. I knew his family.
