DOGE cuts could affect veterans’ health

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – About 18 veterans die by suicide every day, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Both Democrats and Republicans on the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee agree that has to change.

“We’re talking about real lives,” said U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.).

“Making these services available that our veterans need,” said U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.).

However, Democrats asked the VA during a hearing Tuesday how that can happen when DOGE fired thousands of its employees, like those who staff the Veterans Crisis Line.
