WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump hosted the annual White House Easter Egg Roll Monday.

The president made remarks at the annual event which dates back to 1878 and acknowledged the death of Pope Francis.

President Trump said he expects 40,000 people to attend the event on the South Lawn. 30,000 eggs have been prepared for the event.

For the first time this year the egg roll has corporate sponsorships, which has raised ethics concerns. Proceeds from the event will go to the White House Historical Association which helps to organize the egg roll.  Sponsors
